Entity Type

From the Collaborative Bond and Money Market Data Portal

An Entity is a body recognised by law as legally existing in accordance with an internationally agreed standard.

In the Collaborative Market Data Model Entities exist as legal entities or as Branches, with locations between square brackets, or as Funds or Compartments thereof. Each legal entity can have multiple branches, multiple funds and multiple compartments or sub-funds.

Each Legal entity has a Legal Identity Identifier (LEI) as administered by the Regulatory Oversight Committee (ROC) of the Global Legal Entity Identifier System (GLEIS).

Within the universe of Financial Institution Groups (FIGs) Branches typically have different Monetary Financial Institution Codes (MFIs).

Branches typically have the same LEI as their Head office, although in some cases they can also have their own LEI, for example when the Branch is in a different jurisdiction than the Head Office.

The Entity Type for a Branch and their Head Office is the same.

The Collaborative Market Data Model distinguishes the following Entity Types;

  • Supranational Entity is an entity created by a Treaty between Governments,
  • Government Entity is an entity created by Act of Parliament as part of the Government
  • Government Owned Entity is an entity where the government owns the majority of shares
  • Publicly Owned Entity is an entity where shares are transferable without other shareholders approval
  • Privately Owned Entity is an entity where shares are not transferable without other shareholders approval
  • Members Owned Entity is an entity owned by members, like a in a cooperative
  • Partnership Entity is an entity where participation is not transferable without partners approval
