With economic uncertainty continuing to be impacted by the covid-19 pandemic, covered bonds again proved their worth in the CEE region, with investor interest generally robust. However the size of the covered bond markets in CEE remains significantly smaller than that of the larger EU markets such as GerÂmany, Denmark, France and Spain. Only three countries in the region (Hungary, Poland and the Slovak Republic) have any meaningful number of covered bonds outstanding, and we have also seen a rise in issuance of green covered bonds within these particular countries. Nevertheless, the CEE in total represents less than 1% of the total covered bond market.
