TERM PREMIUM ESTIMATES: ARE THEY USEFUL FOR INVESTMENT DECISIONS?

The term premium has been positively correlated with realized excess return for a buy-and-hold strategy, although the relationship is relatively modest. The decline in interest rates from 1999 until 2016 may lead to an overestimation of the contribution of term premium to realized excess return.
