AUSTRALIAN OFFSHORE SHORT-TERM FUNDING SURGES 39.3% YOY

Post Date: 02 November 2026

We are analysing the Australian borrower short term debt market, both domestic and international, until the 30th of September, 2026. The data for the domestic market is sourced from the latest Reserve Bank if Australia, Money and Credit Statistics release from the 9th of June, 2026. The data for the international market is sourced from CMDportal's ISIN-by-ISIN database. See the 'Where is this Data Coming from?' below to understand the exact filters we used.

Quick Takes

  • Offshore growth remains FIG-led: International outstanding reached USD 124.4bn, up 39.3% YoY, despite a 5.0% monthly decline. FIG accounts for 95.5% of the international market and almost all its annual increase.
  • SSA supports domestic growth: Domestic outstanding rose 0.5% MoM to AUD 306.6bn, up 11.9% YoY. SSA added AUD 5.7bn in September, offsetting a AUD 4.0bn FIG contraction.
  • Currency effects amplify domestic gains: AUD appreciation of 9.4% YoY lifted domestic outstanding growth to 22.3% in USD terms, compared with 11.9% in AUD. Offshore growth nevertheless remained stronger.
  • Data agreement remains essential: International outstanding represents 36.4% of the combined domestic and international total on a USD basis. Reconciling the two datasets is necessary to assess funding concentrations and refinancing exposure.
