From the Collaborative Bond and Money Market Data Portal
An Entity is a legal body recognised by law as legally existing with legal rights and responsibilities, such as a tax filing.
In the Collaborative Market Data Model Entities exist either as 1. Legal Entities or as 2. Branches, with locations between square brackets, or 3. as Funds or 4. as Compartments thereof. Each legal entity can have multiple branches, multiple funds and multiple compartments or sub-funds.
Each Legal entity has a Legal Identity Identifier (LEI) as administered by the Regulatory Oversight Committee (ROC) of the Global Legal Entity Identifier System (GLEIS).
Within the universe of Financial Institution Groups (FIGs) Branches typically have different Monetary Financial Institution Codes (MFIs).
Branches and Funds or Compartments typically have the same LEI as their Head office, although in some cases they can also have their own LEI, for example when the Branch is in a different jurisdiction than the Head Office.
The Entity Type for a Branch and their Head Office is the same, whilst that of a Fund or Compartment is not necessarily the same.
The Collaborative Market Data Model distinguishes the following Entity Types:
