From the Collaborative Bond and Money Market Data Portal

In the Collaborative Bond and Money Market Data Model, the Publicly owned Entity classification appears within the field Entity Type which is part of the universe of Legal Entities who can be issuers and or buyers of debt instruments.

The Entity Type is a classification that describes the ownership structure of an entity. The classification distinguishes (1) entities that are part of, owned and or guaranteed by the State, (2) entities owned by the Public, typically through widely distributed and freely transferable shares, (3) entities owned by Private individuals or entities through not freely transferable shares or ownership structures.

Definition: A Publicly owned Entity is a legal entity, that is owned, managed and or controlled by its owners through freely transferrable shares. This type of entity is part of the private sector as opposed to the state / public sector and is typically runs for profit. Companies whose name end with PLC, AG, SA or NV ect typically fall in this classification, when shares are indeed freely available to the public. Therefore not all PLC, AG, SA or NV ect fall within this category.
