Structure or Category is a classification that is given to a Debt Instrument by a market participant or by CMDportal on a best efforts basis. This therefore is not a legal term and so is distinct from what may be found in a Termsheet or Pricing Supplement. It is a clarification that is useful in distinguishing different types of Debt Instruments in various market segments.
In Vanilla Markets, Structure or Category expresses Coupon Type.
In Interest Rate, Foreign Exchange and Equity Linked Markets, Structure or Category expresses the Structure by which the Instrument is exposed to movements in the price of the relevant linked asset, for example a Reverse Convertible Single Stock.
In Commodity Linked Markets, Structure or Category expresses the Commodity to which movements in the price of the instrument is exposed, for example a Gold Linker.
In Credit Linked Markets, Structure or Category expresses the Type of Credit to which movements in the price of the instrument is exposed, for example a Credit Linked (Corporate).
In Risk Linked Markets, Structure or Category expresses the Type of Risk to which the value of the instrument is exposed, for example a natrural disaster or catastrophe.
